Hardware Soundbox vs Your Phone: Real Cost for Indian Merchants
A hardware soundbox looks cheap until you add rental, SIM, and charging. Here is what it really costs, and when your phone does the job better.
Walk into any market in India and you will hear it: “Paytm par 250 rupaye prapt hue.” The hardware soundbox has become part of the sound of Indian retail. But most shopkeepers have never sat down and added up what that little speaker actually costs over a year. - Charging and electricity: The box needs charging every day or two. If it runs out mid-afternoon, it goes silent exactly when your shop is busiest.

- Counter space: Small, but real. A paan shop counter has no spare inch.
Add it up: a ₹2,000 device plus ₹120 a month is roughly ₹3,400 in the first year and ₹1,400 or more every year after that, for one counter. If you run two counters, double it.
